Microsoft and other tech companies are actively campaigning for digital COVID vaccination passports that can be used to assess the ability to board an aircraft or to participate in other activities of “normal life.”
The organization promoting passports includes the health giant Mayo Clinic, called the “Vaccination Credential Initiative (VCI).” The VCI will be held in a digital wallet like Apple Wallet or Google Pay if adopted. Paper IDs or QR codes will be issued from those who do not own a smartphone.
CNBC claimed that the VCI would help individuals “return to travel, work, school and life, while protecting data privacy.”
